Barry J. Cohen

Barry J. Cohen received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami; his Bachelor of Arts from Clark University and is a graduate of the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, New York. After graduation from Law School, Barry worked for a firm in Hackensack, New Jersey joining Amster & Rosensweig, in 1985.

Since that time, Barry has focused his practice on numerous aspects of real estate law including representing both developers and objectors before Planning Boards and Zoning Boards throughout the State of New Jersey. The matter of Allied Realty, Ltd. V. Borough of Upper Saddle River, a published decision handled by Barry is often cited by courts in New Jersey for the proposition that a property owner may show a change of circumstances to justify the granting of relief to a developer for a previously imposed condition of approval.

Barry has represented property owners of large commercial properties in the Tax Court of New Jersey achieving many reductions in assessments resulting in extensive cost savings to clients.

Recognizing that sometimes justice needs to be obtained even if one with limited means seeks such relief, Barry has handled cases for residents of a lower income housing project on a pro bono basis.

Barry resides with his wife and feline son in North Bergen and in his spare time is an avid fan of all sports teams from the U.
